Baikal Web Sites

Baikal, known as Baigal Dalai (Baikal Sea) in Buryat and as Lamu in Evenk (the other native language of Buryatia), and as Ozero Baikal in Russian, is the most famous natural feature of the Buryat homeland as well as a World Heritage Site. It is the largest and deepest lake in the world, holding about 10% of the world’s fresh water. Its basin was the cradle of the Mongolian people and it is the subject of or plays a role in many legends and epics of the Buryat Mongols and other Siberian peoples. Nothing I can write can describe the awesomeness of this place.
Here I present some of the various sites related to Baikal, pictures, history, science, and tourism. Since there are so many, and the list continues to grow, I have moved these links from the main page. Please read and enjoy.
